Why Is She Here?
(Mikkel)
Serenity sat at her desk as she applied makeup to her neck. Her eyebrows furrowed, staring at herself in the little pink compact mirror she was holding. I debated whether I should go into her office since we were at work. I wanted nothing more than to kiss her and tell her how much I missed her, but I knew it was inappropriate right now.
Gaining the courage, I grabbed some random papers and walked to her door. At least Iâd make it look like it was school-related.
âItâs been a while, Miss Ashton,â I said, disregarding the fact that she was married. If it was up to me, Iâd never use that manâs last name. He didnât deserve someone like Serenity.
âWhat are you doing here?â Her body shook from fear. The makeup brush and mirror she was holding dropped onto the desk.
âRelax, itâs just me. You look like youâve seen a ghost,â I chuckled.
âIâm sorry. I guess you scared me,â she looked away, focusing on anywhere but me.
âIs everything okay? It seems like youâve been avoiding me lately,â I leaned against the wall and studied her.
Since the weekend of the party, I havenât spoken to Serenity. She wouldnât answer my calls or text messages. I would have gone to her house to check on her, but that would have caused issues. When I did see her on campus, she would walk in the opposite direction once she saw me. I worried that she regretted that night between us.
âYeah, Iâve been busy. Did you need anything? I have a lot of work to do,â she said.
âSerenity, whatâs going on? Youâre not acting like yourself.â I didnât expect her to jump for joy when she saw me, but I didnât expect her to be uninterested. A little smile would have been nice.
âMr. Pierce, I always catch you here,â Dominic walked in and slapped his hand on my back. I narrowed my eyes at the back of his head as he walked over to Serenity. Once he stood next to her, he placed his hand on her shoulder and bent down to kiss her.
âSeems so,â I said, gritting my teeth.
âOh, tell Andrea that Iâm grateful for her squeezing me in her schedule the other day. I know she was busy, but she was able to see me for a fitting. Your girlfriend is lovely,â his lips spread into a smirk.
Somehow, that seemed like an underlying message. The way my body lit on fire whenever this man was around me was infuriating. I didnât like how angry I became whenever he was near me.
âWeâre no longer together, so I canât relay that message. Youâll have to tell her yourself,â my tone may have been a little rude, but I wasnât fond of this man. Why would I? He was married to the woman that I wanted. He treated her poorly, which angered me more.
âReally? What a shame. What did you do to lose her?â He laughed.
âNeither of us did anything. We separated because thatâs what was best for us.
